This game is the direct sequel to the Pillars of Eternity RPG, not the similarly named Deadfire Pack DLC released in 2017. It’s confusing, we know, but we’re here to set things straight. In the standalone Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, you return as a Watcher, a person who can read others’ memories and even the memories of their past lives.
